Who We Are
Rook & Fern Co. is a child and family emotional development consulting practice focused on helping children express what they feel, and helping the adults in their lives understand what those feelings mean. We do this through developmentally grounded, play-informed, and neurodivergence-affirming consulting and coaching.
We work at the intersection of developmental psychology, family systems, and education, supporting:
children experiencing emotional, sensory, or behavioral challenges
parents seeking practical tools for regulation and communication
educators wanting developmentally appropriate classroom strategies

Our approach is distinct in that we do not diagnose or treat — we translate, educate, and guide. We bridge the gap between mental health, education, and home, helping families and professionals understand:
what a child is communicating through play & behavior
what their nervous system is asking for
how sensory and emotional needs interact
how adults can adapt environments, language, and expectations

Rook & Fern Co. is led by a Developmental Psychology Consultant with graduate-level training in developmental science, play-informed interventions, and trauma-awareness, alongside lived experience in neurodivergence and chronic nervous system conditions. This dual lens allows us to combine academic rigor with real-world application, without pathologizing childhood.
We collaborate with — not replace — licensed mental health providers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and pediatricians when clinical care is needed. Our focus is developmental clarity, family systems education, and practical support that reduces overwhelm and strengthens the child’s ecosystem.

Ours started quietly — in shared classrooms, slow conversations, and moments where children taught us more than we ever taught them.
Rook & Fern Co. grew from a belief that growth doesn’t happen through urgency or correction, but through presence, relationship, and time. What began as two people drawn to children who needed a different pace has become a practice rooted in understanding how connection shapes development.
This is work shaped by listening, by slowing down, and by honoring the stories families and educators carry with them.
